Bloat (GDV):

Gastric dilation and volvulus commonly known as bloat occurs when the stomach rotates on its mesenteric axis hence blocking the entry from the oesophagus (cardia) and out of the stomach(pylorus). the most common problem associated with GDV s shock. severe gastric dilation results in increased intraperitoneal pressure. this increase in pressure causes obstruction to the caudal vena cava and hence decreased venous return and cardiac output. if the stomach twists, then it can also cause damage to the nearby major organs like the spleen and it can also cause obstruction to major blood vessels thereby causing obstructive shock. Moreover the pressure of gas build-up in the walls of the stomach prevents adequate blood circulation, hence resulting the death of many cells (necrosis).GDV is a common problem associated primarily with large, deep-chested dog breeds.
